The Final of the 2011 Boys Match Play Championship took place at Clober G.C. on Friday evening, 8th July, when Gavin Roger of the host Club, played Craig Chalmers of Lenzie G.C. The weather was much kinder than on Thursday, when exceptionally heavy rain threatened to swamp everyone and squeegees were the order of the day on the greens.
Refereed by DGU Vice-President, Billy Hannah, the boys showed little sign of nerves as they teed-upon what was surely a tremendous occasion for them.
Gavin soon took an early lead and was comfortably ahead as they reached the turn at the ninth. Off down the tenth, Craig was trying to peg Gavin back, but it was soon all over and Gavin had achieved a memorable “Double” by adding the Match Play Championship to the Medal Play Championship he had won the previous Friday. Well done Gavin!
At the presentation in the Clubhouse afterwards, Gavin received his Trophy from DGU Vice-President, Billy Hannah.

In his speech, Vice-President Hannah, thanked Captain Kenny Hunter, his Committee and Members, for allowing DGU the courtesy of their Course and Clubhouse facilities, which was much appreciated. He also thanked Greenkeeper Davy Fleming and his staff for a well presented Course under difficult weather circumstances. To General Manager and Pro, Gary McFarlane and staff for attentive assistance and to Clubmaster Alex Lawson, the Bar and Catering staff for providing excellent service to Officials and Players throughout both Tournaments.
