A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
It is an honour and a privilege to be elected as President of Dumbartonshire Golf Union for the next two years and I shall endeavour to maintain our position as the premier county within Scottish Golf.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Neil Morrison for his stewardship as President over the last two years and look forward to his continued guidance not only as Immediate Past President and as our representative on the SGU council.
At this time, I would like to thank and congratulate Immediate Past President Maurice Shields for his outstanding service with Dumbartonshire Golf Union over the past 19 years. Maurice completes his term as President of Scottish Golf Union next January and is only the 6th person from Dumbartonshire Golf Union to have held this illustrious position. This honour reflects the esteem that Maurice is held throughout Scottish Golf as well as Dumbartonshire Golf Union. In addition I thank all the Officials and Members of the Executive Council for the time and hard work in arranging tournaments, coaching, course rating etc.
2012 saw Richard Docherty of Bearsden Golf Club reach the final of the Scottish Amateur Championship. Our congratulations also go to Fraser McKenna of Balmore Golf Club, who was part of the winning Scottish Home International team. Fraser also finished as top amateur in the Aberdeen Asset Management Northern Open championship held at Meldrum House Golf Club. This year saw some of our younger players in Ewan Ferguson and Cameron Kirkwood, both of Bearsden Golf Club, being selected to represent Scotland. Our junior golfers have performed well this year notably at this year’s Scottish Boys Open Stroke Play Championship where Ewan Ferguson just missed out winning the championship by 4 shots. This combined with our Boys and Youth team winning the West of Scotland is an altogether magnificent showing from the Dumbartonshire area. I would like to extend thanks to all Dumbartonshire golfers who have represented the county at all levels. Thanks are also due to our golf Professionals to whom a great deal of credit is due for the above performances.
Finally I would wish another successful playing year to all Dumbartonshire golfers and ask you all, in what are rather difficult times, to give as much support as possible to your local club.
